PRIVACY POLICY (Build SOS)

Effective: August 6, 2025

Scope

This policy explains how Build SOS handles personal information for users in the United States. It covers homeowners, contractors, and site visitors.

What we collect

  • Identifiers: name, email, phone, address, IP address, device identifiers.
  • Professional info: company, license numbers, service areas, trade, insurance attestations.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, actions taken, referral source, approximate location, timestamps.
  • Communications: messages, support requests, preferences, opt-in and opt-out choices.
  • Lead data: homeowner request details and contractor acceptance logs.

Sources

We collect data directly from you, from your use of the platform, and from service providers that support our operations, including hosting, analytics, email delivery, and support. We may ingest public license boards or permit datasets where legally permitted to support verification.

How we use information

  • Provide and improve the platform and support.
  • Verify contractor membership and coverage areas.
  • Facilitate lead requests and introductions.
  • Send service and account notices.
  • Send marketing communications if you opt in, and honor unsubscribe.
  • Protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms.

Disclosures

We disclose personal information to:

  • Service providers under contract who process data for us.
  • Other users when you choose to share. Current design: we do not disclose member emails or phones to homeowners by default. If we add optional sharing later, it will be controlled by member settings and per-lead acceptance, and we will provide clear notices.
  • Authorities or others when required by law or to protect rights and safety.

We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under California law. If that changes, we will update this policy, provide required notices, and offer opt-out choices before any such activity begins.

State privacy rights

Residents of certain states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, and Virginia, have rights to access, delete, correct, and obtain a copy of certain personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or certain profiling. Submit a request at /privacy/request or email privacy@buildsos.com.

We will verify your request and respond within the required period. You may use an authorized agent as permitted by law.

Universal opt-out signals: where required, we honor recognized browser-based opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control and other state-recognized mechanisms.

Annex: Introductions and future sharing controls

  • Current operation: Build SOS does not disclose member emails or phones to homeowners by default. Contractors receive a notification about a homeowner’s request and can accept the introduction. On acceptance we disclose only the fields the contractor enabled.
  • Future option: Build SOS may add a setting that lets a contractor opt in to disclosure of select business contact fields to homeowners who request matches in chosen geographies and services. This will be off by default. We will log time, scope, and channel of disclosures. Contractors can change settings at any time. Homeowners can withdraw their request at any time. We will update this policy before enabling any broader sharing.
